2. JANUARY
IS NATIONAL RADON ACTION MONTH
Below are just a few ideas for conducting
activities in your community.
Pursue radon proclamations from elected officials.
Your
elected officials can help spread the word about the
health
risks of radon. Start by asking mayors, governors,
and others to
proclaim January as Radon Action Month and encourage
citizens
to test their homes. You can publicize the proclamation
by
planning a community event and inviting local media
outlets.
Expand radon recognition efforts. This is an ideal
opportunity to recognize individuals, groups, and organizations
for their successful radon efforts and results with
a plaque,
certificate, ribbon, or donated prizes.
Host a community health fair. Coordinate with local health
care providers and other health-focused groups to have
booths,
educational sessions, and presentations on radon testing
and
mitigation.
Work with local schools.
Contact schools,
science
and health teachers and
have a guest speaker
present to classes on
radon. Provide the classes
with radon educational
materials and radon test
kit coupons.
Set goals and collect results from your events and
activities.
save lives!
More activity ideas and event planning
tools will be
available at

4. AARST’s International Radon
Symposium 2006
Nearly 300 radon professionals from
the private and public sectors attended AARST's International Radon Symposium and the joint CRCPD National radon
Meeting. For the first time AARST conducted on-line polling of the
participants who rated the program’s presentation on science
and technology one of the best yet. Based on that feedback, AARST will be revising the Symposium 2007 program
to include more business presentations, insurance and liability presentations and hands on courses for measurement and mitigation
professionals. Hats off to Bruce Snead and Debbie Kalina, Symposium Chairs and
all of the volunteers on the Symposium Committee that make the symposium a self-sustaining conference
that attracts some of the best science and technology in the world
The 2007 International Radon Symposium
is scheduled for Jacksonville, Florida
-September 9th through September 12th.
