Word on the Street AIHA AND IAQA OPPOSE USE OF ‘IEP’ IN S520 - The American Industrial
Hygiene Association and Indoor Air Quality Association have gone on the record as having formally challenged the inclusion
of the term “indoor environmental professional” within the mold standard proposed for approval by the American
National Standards Organization.
Groups Propose Clarity on HVAC System Maintenance Seeking to resolve inconsistencies in the ways HVAC systems in commercial facilities
are maintained, volunteers from two industry standards-writing organizations have outlined procedures they believe would provide
uniformity in this area. A public review began Sept. 22 for Standard 180, “Standard Practice for Inspection and Maintenance
of Commercial Building HVAC Systems,” written over the past year by a committee of volunteers from the Air Conditioning
Contractors of America and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
Manufacturer Lodges Ethics Complaint with IICRC Hundreds of people in the water damage restoration and IAQ industries in mid September received an unsolicited
e-mail from TheRestorationForum.com, an online discussion place for water and fire damage restorers. The e-mail directed recipients
to view a draft complaint to the IICRC Ethics Committee prepared by Charles Cressy, president of Water Out Drying Corp.
EEF Continues to Dispute with EPA over Contract The IAQ organization that was publicly rebuked by the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency last December continues to differ with the agency on the successful completion of the organization’s EPA contract
last year.
Ask Dr. Burge: Interpreting Low to Mid Levels of Airborne Fungi Q. How do I interpret moderate to low levels of airborne fungi considering variability in airborne populations?
A.
This is a perennial problem, and one that is truly solved only by collecting either high-volume samples (producing a long-term
average) or (better) a series of individual samples so that variability over space and time can be estimated. Of course, budgets
generally do not allow for this kind of repetitive sampling. Instead, one must understand the magnitude of possible variability,
the probability that any one sample represents the whole, and make decisions based on a combination of the air sample data
and careful visual inspection.
Portable Air Purifiers for Airborne Infection Control Public health officials are concerned that infectious diseases are a growing threat
to our nation’s health. After the SARS outbreak of 2003, many lessons were learned about inadequate infection control
and the recognition that the health care community had to improve preparation for any future large-scale epidemic.
Practical Aspects of Measuring Moisture in Buildings Is the building still wet, or is it dry? If it is wet, where is it wet?
Exactly how dry does masonry
block have to be for you to reinstall gypsum board?
Sooner or later, all investigations of chronic or catastrophic
water damage need quantitative moisture measurements to provide a firm foundation for conclusions and recommendations.

PRO-LAB UNDERWRITES NACHI TV
(Denver, CO) - Tired of surfing boring websites?
Soon you will be able to tune into NACHI.TV, the home inspection industry's on-demand webcast and watch anything inspection-related.
The shows will feature the inspection profession's very best vendors, educators and industry leaders as guests.
NACHI members can watch free educational videos on everything from "Commercial
Inspections" to "Thermal Imaging Techniques." Some of the industry's best speakers and trainers are scheduled to be on upcoming
episodes. Many episodes will be shot with actual inspectors on location while they perform inspections. Very educational!
NACHI members will also be able to add links to their own inspection
websites which will permit visitors to watch consumer episodes such as "Why Hire a NACHI Member", "What Every REALTOR Needs
to Know about Home Inspections" and "How to Recognize Termite Infestation." Members need not host the video but instead simply
link to the episodes they wish to make available to their visitors. Everything is hosted on NACHI.TV's servers which makes
linking to them simple.
The cost to operate NACHI
TV is extremely expensive. “PRO-LABŪ once again stepped up to the plate with the big bucks” stated Nick Gromicko,
CEO of NACHI. PRO-LABŪ has agreed to exclusively underwrite the entire project by writing NACHI a check for $100,000. “As
the Home Inspection industries biggest supporter it was my pleasure to give back especially during the holiday season…
and a big special thanks to all of the loyal PRO-LAB customers, you made us number one” stated James McDonnell, CEO
of PRO-LAB.
As an added bonus NACHI.TV will also be producing professional
commercials for individual NACHI members to put on their websites. Imagine these links on your website: "Click Here to watch
me explain about how I test for radon" or "Click Here to watch me tell you more about ABC Inspection Company." NACHI.TV will
also produce custom DVDs for NACHI members to hand out instead of business cards.
NACHI.TV is also developing the world's largest inspection video
clip library for NACHI member use. Production began in Late November using 3ccd, digital camcorders. The First two shows have
already been edited using Final Cut Pro. The 80 total anticipated shows will be available for free to anyone and everyone,
anytime, from any computer in the world. Watch what you want, from wherever you want, whenever you want.
